I spent last weekend on camping with friends in Cheddar. It is a place where the real cheddar cheese is produced. Cheddar is a town lying at the foot of the gorge that reaches 120 meters at its peak. The view from the top of the cliff is amazing. You can see the rocks on the other side of the gorge and wild goats feeding on the steep slopes. It is truly impressive.
Spending time in wild places can refresh and empower me for a long time. Being close with nature seem necessary to me to maintain physical and psychical health. Contact with nature is magickally empowering in all possible senses. Being in nature can be much more powerful and inspiring than ritual performed at home. That is because in wild places magick just happens before your eyes. You don't need to imagine, visualize anything. It is all there.
On Sunday we went for a walk to the top of the gorge. We were walking down the cliff to the viewpoint. On the side from the path there was small thicket and in there were goats, lots of them. In front of us there was very old, huge goat with long massive horns!
Absolutely beautiful. We stopped to look at him. He wasn't bothered by us at all. Being on his own territory he knew we were not a threat. He was lying on the grass, looking at us and smiling. It felt like being greeted by divine being. This goat is an extraordinary creature and very magickal indeed. I had a strong sense of mutual respect and recognition. We just felt personally contacted by this Spirit. Unforgettable experience. It was amazing that we all felt totally safe in front of this strong, big wild animal. We felt such a friendliness, kindness and wisdom emanating from him. Very warm, loving feeling. He seemed so proud and confident and incredibly cute in its own way (at least to me).
Anton described this experience from his own perspective in here: audience with baphomet
Here's Hippi's photo of the goat:
and more goat....
and some shots of the cliffs and the gorge...
closing, a little goat!
It was special. I love spending time with you guys. Cheddar is definitely somewhere we should go to again. But we should also check out more magickal places together...

Yes! Definitely! We should explore different places and travel together!

Hmm. Remember the goat I have put on my book cover last year? He looked very similar. When I photographed the goats there was obvious communication between them and myself, they were quite happy to pose for me. These are smart animals I am sure. The way they look at you seems highly intelligent. It's in their eyes.
Well, church-christianity demonized what seemed smart. Smartness was a threat for their totalitarian agenda.
What Lolita and Hippi report about what I would call "places of power" for lack of a better word is very much like my own experience with certain places. I have got my places to go near me where I usually get new ideas, feel empowered or get a sense of the future. Each of those places has got its own characteristics. There are urban places of power, too, where "the city is made" or civilization around gets its character. To find the urban ones, look for where contrasts and multitude manifest. These places are the major coordination points for human endeavours according to a certain theory.
For some reason in most cases it seems to increase the effect if you eat something in such a place.
And I report a bug: can't open Anton's blog post, this has once happened with another blog post which I could then open some days later. I just get a blank screen.

Yeah, my blog is down right now and I have some other things to do before I fix it. Don't worry, it'll be back up.
Agree about places of power. I think some places simply resonate with certain individuals, and others can resonate with groups. Some with both.
And I did think about the post you made with the goats when choosing you book cover. We found out recently that these wild goats have recently been reintroduced to Cheddar. I'm really glad they have, they really add to the magic of the place.

For me all the weekend was very special.
Strange slightly sweet smell in the air and all the crickets made me feel truly exotic. There are almost no crickets in Scotland and air also smells differently. But obviously the gorge itself was the most impressive. I noticed that rocks and mountains have special meaning to me because they are so old and I can feel this around them. For the rock thousands of years are still very short time; their lives are so long that people can not truly imagine it. When being in their presence I feel as though I can look into the past, because rocks could “see” things that happened long time ago. I believe that rocks have their own spirit, very different to the human's one and that's why many people think they are dead.
Meeting the old goat on the last day was a very unusual thing too. I also had a feeling of recognition and I had no doubt that I was facing a deity. I looked straight into its eyes and it was smiling. I felt very surprised, almost as if it was not real but later when we went down the rocks the goat was standing on the path and looking at us. Just then this thought crossed my mind; that it was in fact wild and dangerous animal but it was still smiling and I was not afraid. It looked at me and slowly walked off. This was extremely empowering experience.
